What we believe:

The Pharisees Condemn

  • The Pharisees (the lawyers, ethicists, theologians and jurists of the time) condemned the woman caught in adultery.  They did not care about the woman’s well-being; they were only trying to trap Jesus.

  • We all can have a tendency to be religious police like the Pharisees, judging people caught in certain sins. The reality is we are all sinners, deserving of death. Jesus does not want us to respond to people this way.

Jesus Extends Grace

  • Jesus is the only perfect sinless one, and yet he did not condemn the woman caught in adultery.

  • He is not soft on sin; he is just big on grace!

  • He does not condemn us either.

The Good News of the Gospel

  • Jesus took our punishment on the cross.  His righteousness is imputed on all who believe in Him.  When we put our trust and faith in Him, He forgives us of our sins and gives us new life.

  • The beauty of the Gospel is that “our shame is undone, our worth is affirmed and our freedom is won!”

  • When God looks at you, he sees the righteousness of Jesus.

Respond with Grace

  • We do not need to beat ourselves up over our sins and failures.

  • Yet we should confess our sins to one another. Confession does not remove the consequences of sin, but it does break the power of sin over our lives.

  • Just as God has forgiven us in Christ, we should follow Christ’s example and extend grace to others when they fall.

How to obey:

  • Confess your sins to one another.

  • Accept God’s forgiveness.

  • Extend grace to others when they sin.

How to walk intimately with God:

  • Believe and receive the Good News of the Gospel.

  • Confess your sins and walk in freedom. Develop a rhythm of openness and confession: walk in humility

  • Have non-judgmental, gracious conversations with those around you.
