What to believe
Psalm 42 is a blueprint for worship in desperate times.
“My God and my soul”
Psalm 42 is attributed to the Sons of Korah, who were descendants of Levi. They descended from Korah, who led a rebellion against God and was literally swallowed up by the ground. In later generations, they became prominent worship leaders and servants in the temple, but they continued to refer to themselves as the Sons of Korah, perhaps as a reminder of both where they came from and what God had done in their lives.
No matter where you came from or how much brokenness is in your familial bloodline, God can and will use you for his glory and give you purpose in his kingdom.
We should desperately seek God's presence at all times.
It is better to come to God with our sorrow than to wait for it to leave
He crushes us to drive out sin, removing idols we’ve created, or removing good things in order to make space for something better.
Sometimes we say the enemy is after us when it’s really God getting our attention.
He isn’t angry when we come to him in our wrestling. Bringing our doubts to him is an act of faith and worship.
Sometimes you need your own gifts that God has given you. You often know the state of your own soul and can minister to yourself.
You never know what God will teach you in isolation that will become a blessing to the congregation.
How to obey
• Pray for the second coming of Jesus
• Pray for the people of the church, that God would enter their hearts
