Scriptures: Psalm 24

• The ark of the covenant is the resting place of God's presence for the Jews. It was stolen by the enemy, and it caused them plagues and disease, and they sent it back by wagon and cow.

• The Israelites who found it looked upon it in an unholy way and died

• 1 Samuel 6:20 “ … who is able to stand before the LORD this holy God”

• David gets a huge crowd and attaches the ark of the covenant to strong oxen, and the people are worshiping with all their might, and the oxen start wobbling, and the cart starts shaking, and a guy puts his hands out to catch the ark and gets smitten.

What to believe

1. The peoples, gods, and waters are powerful, but God is more powerful.

Psalm 24:1 The Earth is the LORD'S and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein, for he has founded it upon the sea and established it upon rivers

• The Israelites were saying how strong the Lord was and how he toppled the god Dagon each night and conquered the gods of Egypt

Psalm 24:3 Who shall ascend the hill of the LORD? And who can ascend his hill?

• The worthiness of God

Psalm 24:4 - he who has clean hands, pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to what is false and does not swear deceitfully

• Someone who does good, thinks good, doesn't worship evil gods, or lie

Psalm 24:5-6 - He will receive blessings from the LORD and righteousness from the God of his salvation. Such is the generation of those who seek him…:

2. David knows we don't achieve righteousness but receive righteousness from God.

Some people say “nobody’s perfect” as an excuse not to try and be complacent with guilt, sin, and unforgiveness.

3. Seeking the face of God means receiving righteousness from the sacrifice of Jesus and pursuing righteousness through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Psalm 24:10 - Who is the King of glory, the LORD of hosts, he is the king of glory! selah

Ezekiel 43:4-5 Ezekiel is giving his prophecy to the people about the temple, but at the moment their temple was already destroyed by Babylon

In Ezekiel 44, there's more of his vision - he was brought to the outer gate, and it was shut, and no one shall enter it for the LORD, the God of Israel, has entered by it,...

The eastern gate in Israel, called the golden gate, is closed

Psalm 24: We can be praying for the future temple and the future coming of the LORD

How to obey

• Pray for the second coming of Jesus

• Pray for the people of the church, that God would enter their hearts.
