Speaker: Guest Speaker Zac Tsai

Scripture: John 17:1-19

Jesus in the upper room; words & prayers the night before the cross

Jesus Prays:

  • v.1–5 For the Father to glorify Him

    • “Glory” means to give splendor to God’s manifest glory.

    • “The greatest glory is to give up your glory” – Tim Keller

    • Jesus gave up His glory for us on the cross!

    • We too should live for His glory…

    • To glorify Him & enjoy Him forever (1 Corinthians 10:31)

    • Susanna Wesley– Her greatest job was to disciple & train her children (12 kids) “The Methodist movement” from Charles & John Wesley (her sons)

  • v.3 Jesus gives eternal life

    • Eternal means an eternal relationship with the one true God, Jesus Christ

    • Meaning God is your life!

    • You spend time in His presence.

    • Eternal life is vibrant & guides your whole life.

    • Does this describe your life? If not, trust Him today.

The starting place is to trust in Him & believe in Him - Michael Chang – tennis pro (coaching Zach)

Jesus is inviting you to “know Him,” not just about Him → He wants you to make Him Lord of your life!

  • Jesus prays for the disciples (vv. 11–13 and their protection)

    • John 17:17–19 – “Holy Father”

    • Keep them safe

    • He is holy

    • We can pray for His protection (the world hates believers). Spiritual protection = lust, worldliness, pride, etc.
