Our Children’s Pastor, Cyndi Stephens is amazing. Our vision for the kids of Wellspring is not just to babysit them while the adults get discipled. We invest in our children so that they have their own vibrant friendship with God, so that they can hear from Him by the Spirit, so that they can know His Word, and so that they can share Him with others.
Our recent Kids’ Camp was a case-in-point. Here’s a summary in Cyndi’s own words….
“Contagious” Kids Camp 2017
Keeping with our “Being a Contagious Christian” theme for 2017, our Kids Camp this year was all about sharing the love of Jesus with people around us.
In order to do more while keeping costs low, we decided to stay at the church and have a few off-campus excursions this year. So, we kicked off the weekend by going to the Hall’s Pumpkin Farm in Grapevine on Friday evening. We went through the corn maze, purchased a few pumpkins, ate delicious Kettle Corn, and went on an after-dark hayride! When we returned to the church we roasted marshmallows around fire pits in the parking lot and had S’Mores. We finished off our evening with a teaching about what it means to be a Contagious Christians.
MINISTRY AND MORE FUN
On Saturday morning, we walked down to Green Valley Park where the kids handed out glow sticks (with John 8:12 attached) and prayed for the kids/people we encountered. We had a time of preparation, prayer and role-playing before we went so the kids would know what to do. It was amazing to watch how excited the kids were to do this and how bold they were to go up and pray for people! After lunch, we took the kids to the NRH Aquatics Center to swim for a couple of hours and then had a snowball fight in the church parking lot after we returned.
Saturday night, Chris Holder led us in a time of awesome worship and then I talked with the kids about practical ways that they could share the Gospel with those around us. I gave an altar call and one of the girls who does not come to our church raised her hand to trust in Jesus. When I spoke with her Mom, she shared with me that they do not attend church. She is very interested in visiting here. Her girls said that they really, really want to come to church here! ☺
We finished our evening with some activities to help the kids practice sharing the Gospel and the leaders came with a prophetic word to share with each child. After the word was shared, the kids gathered around that child and prayed for him/her. It was very powerful to see the kids gathered around and praying for each other!
Leading up to Kids Camp, I prayed diligently for two things:
That each child would encounter Jesus in a powerful and personal way
That God would develop and deepen friendships between the kids
It was awesome to see God show up and answer those prayers! As the leaders loved on the kids and shared the word that God had given to them for each child, they were encouraged and assured of who they are and how much the Father loves them. And, the kids had a lot of fun hanging out together, and getting to know each other better. I think they walked away with a better understanding of what it means to be a Contagious Christian…to share Jesus with others by loving them like Jesus would love them.
