The first time I ever saw prophetic ministry was in September of 1987. I want to tell you about it, but first I want you to turn to Acts chapter 2 and we’re going to pray.
Lord, thank you for this holy word. And we pray with the psalmist, “open Thou mine eyes that I may behold wondrous things out of Thy law. Would you speak to us from Your word this morning, and Lord would you establish the prophetic ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ and the spirit of prophecy right here among us in this family. We pray in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, amen.
In an earlier life I was a seminary professor and convinced that nothing supernatural happened anymore, except people got saved, that was it. Oh yeah, and if you prayed for money, God might give you money. But, if you prayed for healing, you’re not going to get it and if you wanted him to speak to you in any special way other than the Bible it wasn’t going to happen. Well, I went through a transition and I started believing in all of these things in the Bible – that prophecy was for today, that healing was for today, that miracles were for today, the only problem was, I didn’t see any of it…

I think that you missed a reason that the disciples were considered drunk. Is it possible that the disciples were speaking in the gift of tongues that we see today in the Charismatic movement? Just like at the baptism of Jesus where some heard God’s voice but others heard thunder, some heard in their native languages and others heard gibberish… I don’t see anything in the text that would undermine this view. Verse 11 says that heard them telling in their own tongues does not necessarily mean they were speaking in those tongues?
