Prophetic Ministry

The “last days” predicted frequently by Old Testament prophets officially began with the birth of the church in Acts 2, and this timeframe is marked by widespread prophetic revelation (Acts 2:17-18).  The Apostle Paul exhorted the Corinthian church to pursue this spiritual gift above all others (1 Cor. 14:1), even ranking it above the gift of teaching (12:28?).  Within a few centuries, however, prophecy had already fallen on hard times and teaching—probably the least common of spiritual gifts (James 3:1)—was exalted above all others.

At Wellspring, we make it our ambition to fulfill Paul’s command to “eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy” (1 Cor. 14:1).  We do this by training our church members to hear God’s voice through dreams, visions, impressions, and a variety of other means.  Those training sessions take more the form of a clinic than a classroom, because it’s impossible to grow without practice.  We also have prophetic “booths” where prophetic team members prophesy over individuals after every service.  Every six weeks, following the model of the Old Testament schools of prophets, we have a prophetic community meeting, where we gather to hear God speak about our church, community, nation, and world.
